Let’s say that you have rectal problems, particularly hemorrhoids, while you’re traveling or on a vacation. If you’ve been reading the past entries, you already know what these swollen blood vessels are capable of – extreme pain, discomfort, difficulty is passing stools and profuse bleeding. That being said, this complication could be the worst you can ever experience, which is why you should take the necessary steps to prevent it from getting worse. How? Here are some tips you must abide to:
Avoid sitting down for long periods

One of the major catalysts of hemorrhoid formation is sitting for hours at a time. Doing so puts a lot of pressure on your anal and rectal areas, thus causing them to swell up, turning them into the hemorrhoids we know and HATE. Let’s look at situations like this and see what you can do about it:
- If you have a desk job which requires you to sit in a chair for eight hours, try to stand up at least for a few seconds every hour, in order to relieve the pressure put on the anus and rectum.
- If you’re on a long flight, try to take the seat in the aisles. This will enable you to stand up and walk around for a bit, relieving the pressure in your anal and rectal areas.
- Try slouching. Although a lot of people discourage it, doing so will prevent further aggravation to your hemorrhoids, given that the pressure will be distributed to your lower back instead.
Aside from making your hemorrhoids worse, sitting for long intervals is associated with high blood pressure, diabetes and other circulatory complications.
Avoid toilet straining

The main reason why hemorrhoids are so common is mainly because everyone is guilty of straining in the toilet – and this happens to be the primary cause of this complication. This can be caused by a number of factors, including constipation and delaying waste disposal. This obviously puts a lot of pressure on your rectal and anal areas, thus causing hemorrhoid growth. In order to avoid making an effort in toilet trips, here are some tips that will help you avoid doing this:
- Whenever you feel the urge, immediately eliminate it since it will be easier to do so by then. Delaying it will cause all of the water and moisture to be sucked out of the stool, thus making it harder to expel.
- Eating fiber rich food. As mentioned in the past few entries, fiber is a carbohydrate who plays a vital role in waste elimination, given that it softens stools. Try to increase your fiber intake by eating more fruits and vegetables.

Obesity is an epidemic, not an infectious disease, but a common occurrence in the United States. This is mainly brought about by eating the wrong types of food – and too much of it. How does this relate to hemorrhoids? Keep in mind that the extra fat on your stomach will put a lot of pressure on your waist, which in turn will also put pressure on your anal and rectal areas.
