Why Do You Need to Have Your Hemorrhoids Checked and Treated?

Seeking hemorrhoid relief is rather easy, but it’s something that a number of sufferers refuse to do. This is mainly because some people are ashamed of having them in the first place, and are really too shy to show it. Although their shame could be justified (seriously, who would tell anyone that they have rectal bleeding and swollen veins in their anus), immediate treatment is an absolute necessity. Why? Well, here are some factors and aspects that you need to keep in mind:

It might not be hemorrhoids in the first place

Hemorrhoids have a number of symptoms, including pain, bright red blood on the stool and swollen growths on your rectum and anus. Usually, this complication has symptoms that are in line with other ailments, like rectal prolapses and anal fissures. Although bright red blood on the surface of the stool is one of the main symptoms of internal hemorrhoids, it could also signal that there’s a tear on the rectum and it’s bleeding.

Hemorrhoids are harmless, but you need to make sure that the condition you’re experiencing is truly the disease and not something different – or severe. Confirm it with your doctor first, then you can go straight to treating the whole thing.

It’s getting worse by the minute

If you’ve experienced hemorrhoids before, you already know how painful and uncomfortable they can be. Bear in mind that hemorrhoids are swollen blood vessels, meaning they are not able to do their task well: to circulate blood and nutrients. When blood doesn’t circulate well, they form clots, giving birth to thrombosed hemorrhoids, which are a lot more painful compared to their counterparts without clots. People with thrombosed external hemorrhoids may not be able to sit well, while some may show an awkward gait.

Aside from external hemorrhoids, internal hemorrhoids can also get worse. If ignored, they will have the tendency to bleed more – some cases have even caused severe anemia, like in the case of President Franklin Roosevelt. Aside from bleeding, they also have the tendency to prolapse, or exit the anal sphincter. It’s like this: just imagine a piece of your rectum exiting your anus.

It might get infected

Although the chances of hemorrhoids getting infected are a long shot, it is actually very, very possible, given its location. Infected hemorrhoids complicate the whole treatment process: you will certainly need antibiotics and possibly, invasive treatment methods to cure it. Also remember that these may have the tendency to get gangrene, which will complicate things further.

Lastly, it will hurt a lot and hamper movement

With everything that has been mentioned, you can certainly hypothesize that hemorrhoids are a big pain in the buttocks, which is unfortunately, an understatement. Sufferers know that it’s more than just swollen blood vessels: it can keep them from walking and sitting properly, as well as making them lose their will to dump waste on in the toilet.

Overall, bear in mind that hemorrhoids are not something to be ashamed of. Two-thirds of Americans have it and your doctor has probably seen more than a dozen of it already.
